You know out of all the
beauty products available in the
market, I never doubt using Dove
or even regret buying one. Though compare with
the prices of other soap in our local market. Dove can be more
expensive. But
here’s the story, Dove is
investing in campaigns for the people in realizing
the true meaning of beauty, that we are all unique and
beautiful.
You know , every time my 13 years old sister get dress and
all that, she always complain of her flaws and for crying out loud, pimples are
very natural for their puberty stage, she wants to have it done by BELO! Because
she sees fabulous models and celebrities endorsing BELO, or thanking BELO in her local teen magazines with fabulous
skins that seems like they hibernated during their adolescent years and escaped
the nightmares of acne problems. Moreover,
oh gawd, every night she is in to her ritual in applying whitening lotion
desperately all over her morena complexion. Her body is like small I mean she’s
thin but not the anorexic type, but she’s yearning to have , err.. like a 20
inches waist line , is that normal? Oh, and let’s skip the boob-issue.
she whines like "how come you and ditchi has bigger boobs and
tra-lala..lah" that is another topic and a horrid PEP talk like
"because you're sexy and slender and slim and... EEeeekk" ran out of
words to utter.
Recently, I watched this commercial by Dove and I realized that how we perceived
beauty is affecting the next generations. Especially the teens low self esteem issue,Oh
come on, in our culture, we like those mestiza and the curvaceous, majority
okay? If I will ask you , what will you choose a 200 pounds women but with a
beautiful face or a ravishing sexy women but with a .. uhm.. you know HIPON? You
know what I mean right? Of course, I would go for the HIPON. Are you kidding
me? This also reminded me of an incident happened to my loved-ones. They went
at DECADES morato. Well, She is kinda overweight and her friend is also quite
big. Then they passed through a group of guys on their way to the comfort room.
And you know what these jerks said? “Pare! Araw ba ng mga balyena ngayon? Wahahahaah!”
SHIT. if I’m the one who heard this , The bottle I’m holding would surely hit
their faces and see if they can still laugh. Is that how we perceive beauty in this present time? And now, Photoshop is a woman’s best friend. we conceal, we hide or we totally eradicate what we think are "imperfections"
I don’t know how we perceive beauty in this, cutlture bounded where FHM
Photoshop edited models ruled; being pleasant, presentable looking is not
enough, and you have to live with this society’s standard of beauty. Dove also
recognized this issue worldwide, that’s why they have different campaigns in
line to promote beauty in its truest meaning and to develop self esteem to the youngster.
